About US
Michael Cohen, MD, PhD
Medical Negligence Investigator, Serving Maryland, Washington D.C. and clients nationwide
For over three decades, I have dedicated my career to bridging the gap between medicine and the law. As a physician-scientist, and an inventor of several ethical drugs, specializing in medical jurisprudence, my mission is straightforward: to help injured plaintiffs and their legal counsel navigate the intricate scientific realities of medical negligence from A to Z, ensuring every meritorious case receives the rigorous evidence and preparation it deserves.
A Foundation Rooted in Science and Medicine
My journey in medicine began in Groningen, The Netherlands, where I was born in 1947. After attending high school in Pardes-Hannah, Israel, and serving in the Israel Defense Forces from 1965 to 1968, I pursued my medical education at the State University of Utrecht, graduating in 1973. Driven by a deep curiosity for how therapeutic agents interact with human biology, I earned my PhD in Pharmacology from Utrecht in 1976.
That same year, I was awarded a Research Fellowship at the prestigious National Cancer Institute (NCI) within the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland, where I conducted research through 1985. My clinical specializations spanned Internal Medicine, Medical Oncology, and Endocrine Oncology through 1989. This intense foundation in clinical care, pharmacology, and complex disease mechanisms provided me with a unique lens through which to evaluate medical standards of care and drug efficacy.
Decades of Expertise in Medical Jurisprudence
Since 1976, I have applied my medical background directly to the field of Medical Jurisprudence. Over 36 years of medical-scientific practice, I have personally analyzed more than 20,000 cases across all specialties of medicine. My investigative work has touched some of the most landmark legal and environmental challenges in history; including scientific exploration for aviation disasters, the historic Chesapeake Kepone spillage disaster, and the Bhopal mass disaster, alongside thousands of individual medical and pharmacological malpractice cases.
End-to-End Case Guidance for Plaintiffs and Attorneys
Medical malpractice litigation requires far more than reviewing chart notes; it demands a clear strategy, credible expert testimony, and persuasive visual communication. I guide plaintiffs and trial attorneys through every phase of the process
Initial Case Determination
First, I help prospective plaintiffs evaluate whether they have a viable legal claim. If an injured party does not yet have legal counsel, I assist them in connecting with a qualified attorney.
Pre-Trial Strategy & Discovery
I assist legal teams in defining the core medical issues, drafting interrogatories, preparing detailed demand letters, and taking depositions.
Expert Witness Selection
Drawing on decades in medicine, I retain top-tier medical specialists to review case specifics and deliver expert witness testimony when merit is established.
Trial Assistance at Counsel’s Desk
During trial, I sit directly beside trial counsel in court. I help formulate targeted witness interrogations, assist with opening and closing arguments, and coordinate scientific statements.
Cutting-Edge Visual Exhibits
To make complex physiology clear to juries, I design comprehensive trial exhibits using advanced computer software, professional medical illustration, and modern AI tools.
